Two Faced Podcast Chapter 006: Bristol Bass

Two Faced Podcasts returns with Chapter 006, a mix highlighting some of the best music to have emerged from the underground Bristol bass-music scene in recent years.

Bristol, England, UK. For years this city has nurtured a rich underground scene. Home to urban graffiti artist 'Banksy' as well as a number of forward-thinking musicians and bands whose collective musical consciousness helped shape the 'Bristol Sound' during the 1990s, today the city still continues to maintain a strong relationship between music and art cultures.

Two Faced Podcast Chapter 005: Silkie Smooth

What needs to be said really, Silkie has been around since day. Like many producers of his time, Silkie began his first musical endeavors with garage and grime, producing beats and DJing at an early age for his brother's crew 'Unorthodox'. After experiencing first-hand the sounds that were pioneered at the legendary club night 'FWD>>' during the early 00's, Silkie's productions began to take a more melodious, bass-driven form.

Two Faced Podcast Chapter 003: 81 Ways To Work Your Blades

The Two Faced Podcast Series is back with yet another mouthwatering breaks/dubstep cornucopia. This killer mix is full of dark rolling hills of bass along drum teched cliff-sides. For the third mix in the TWO FACED series, mixing duties have traded hands to Hellmore, resident of the Low Society in Australia. For this precision mix he has explored the sounds of SWAMP 81, home to some phatty releases from Kryptic Minds, The Bug, Skream, Addison Groove (Headhunter), Ramadanman, Pinch, Boddika and Faulty DL.

“When starting to compile this mix it started as only SWAMP tunes, but it became apparent very quickly that doing so would not do the label justice. Instead I’ve selected not only SWAMP releases, but dug into the entire catalogue of the producers. I wanted to show what these artist have done as well as what they’re currently doing, regardless of record label...with a few Loefah bits added respectfully into the mix.”

Decay into the woozy sounds of '81 Ways To Work Your Blades' a smoothly sliced mix from Hellmore of the TWO FACED PODCASTS series.

Two Faced Podcast Chapter 002: March of the Slugs

The second installment from the Two Faced Podcast series is Beetee's take on the Night Slugs sound. Initially a sceptic when he was introduced to the 808 driven sound which is featured so heavily in the NS catalogue, he ate his words when he heard the release of “That Mystic EP” by Kingdom, specifically the track "Bust Broke". The deceptively simple tune made him completely reassess his standing on this emerging sound and quickly became a convert and furiously began buying up all NS releases, incorporating them flawlessly into his repertoire.

This mix is me saying sorry for every unkind thought I ever had about Night Slugs. How very, very wrong I was. It took me a while to get there, but I got there

Listen below to the second mix in the series, proving once again that these boys have a serious passion for purveying and sourcing forward thinking music. Beetee's mix does justice in his tribute to the Night Slugs label, with an in your face mix that is stylishly crafted and leading the rolling sounds of drummed up dubstep into a march of broken beats.
