Real name Travis Stewart, Machinedrum has been a staple in New York’s underground since the early part of the last decade, when his debut album Now You Know (2001) was released on Miami’s Merck Records. In the years since, which have seen him release another eight full-lengths as well as myriad singles and mixtapes, Machinedrum has explored countless forms of dance music, hip-hop and more, as well as the extremes of both analog and digital musical forms.
Born in Manhattan, Max Tannone lived in Upstate New York for most of his life, until he moved back to New York City in 2008. He has released a selection of albums from Jaydiohead, a mash-up album combining Jay-Z and Radiohead and Doublecheck Your Head, which mixed Beastie Boys vocals over instrumental tracks. He describes his approach to creating music,
"i start by findingan acapella and a song I want to sample. Next I chop up the original song into short pieces so I can re-arrange it, and from here I build the track around the vocals. Once the skeleton is completed, I began adding drums, FX, other instruments, edit the vocals, etc. Really just making it as you go."
Dub Kweli is the remix project by Max Tannone. Released in August 2010, it features a crafted selection of classic dubbed out reggae beats, with the lyrical rhymes of Talib Kweli. Dub Kweli is the follow-up of Max Tannone's 'Mos Dub' project.
